Meet T&M:

Alex Taylor

Buisness Director and Technical Director

Meet Alex Taylor

As the Business Development and Technical Director at T&M Design, Alex wears many hats. His role includes outreach, customer relations, customer service, project feasibility reviews, site evaluations, project management, sales and marketing, forecasting, financial reviews, and project bids. Some days he may be working with contractors at a project site, while other days may involve working with local representatives to explore future opportunities or helping with the company’s long-term planning.

With so many different responsibilities, Alex describes himself as a “jack of all trades” within the T&M Design team. As a growing small business, T&M gives him the opportunity to take on a wide range of challenges while helping the company continue moving forward.

Alex joined T&M Design in May 2024, bringing years of experience in engineering, process design, safety, operations, and small business development. He earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Mississippi State University before beginning his career as a process engineer in the paper industry, Georgia Pacific.

At GP, Alex focused on process improvement, troubleshooting, design, and feasibility studies. His work covered many areas of the facility, including reactors, pulp processing, paper machines, and converting. He also became the first salaried employee to join the safety team, focusing on LOTO audits and ergonomic design. He then earned his Chemical Process Safety certification to support his design work for hazardous chemical processes.

Alex later joined GP’s Process Safety Management team, where he continued to work on safety data studies, PSM and safety audits, ergonomics, and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) across GP’s global businesses.

He then moved into a Senior Process Engineer role with Renmatix, a startup focused on developing green chemistry through Supercritical Hydrolysis of wood. During his seven years there, Alex had the opportunity to work through new challenges every day. He describes this time as “… fast-paced and hard, but incredibly rewarding.” He contributed or led the development of several unit operations, which included a wide range of designs: valves, reactors, filtration, mixing, ion exchange, heat recovery, three-phase cyclonic separation, packaging, and logistics. Later at Renmatix, he was part of the team to convert the facility to cGMP for future cosmetic and food additive production. He continues to describe the teams at Renmatix to be “… some of the smartest and hardest-working people he has encountered.”

Alex is a relatively new addition to the PNW. He moved here in 2020 and started working right when COVID-19 hit. During that time, he worked with a few businesses and helped to start an MEP firm. From there he brought his experience with design and food manufacturing to Glacier Tanks. As the VP of Engineering, he focused his teams on improving quality and communication with manufacturers through design standards, technical training for teams without a technical background, and driving production timelines without losing a focus on finished product quality.

At T&M, Alex has been able to bring those different areas of experience together while helping the company grow.

“One of the most rewarding parts is growing a small business and helping our team achieve more every day. I like to look to the future and imagine what could be. From there, we have only to shoot for it.”

Alex’s approach to his work is centered around learning, listening, and thoughtful problem-solving. He describes himself as thoughtful because he considers both potential solutions and their impact, while also taking into account the different perspectives of the people involved.

For Alex, helping others and driving positive change are important parts of what he does.

Outside of work, Alex enjoys spending time outdoors with friends and family. Whether he’s fishing, hiking, camping, running, walking, or playing sports, he enjoys just about anything that gets him outside.

And there’s another side of Alex that people might not expect: he’s an avid Dungeons & Dragons fan. He and his friends have been playing together for more than 20 years.

Whether he’s helping guide T&M Design’s growth, working through a technical challenge, exploring a new opportunity, or enjoying time outdoors, Alex brings curiosity, versatility, and a “help first” mindset.

We’re grateful to have Alex as part of the T&M Design team and look forward to seeing what’s ahead!
